We help the most disadvantaged orphans with disabilities in South Africa to develop mentally and physically and improve their quality of life. It’s hard to see that the social system in South Africa still does not believe in the ability of these children to learn nor believe they should support the development of these children! By our project, these children are learning to walk, acquiring social skills and showing great results! It is a human right for every child to learn and reach their fullest potential.
When a child is born with severe mental and physical complex diseases, the parents give them up to the State. He lives within 4 walls in an institution where outsiders are denied entrance. In South Africa, 29,000+ orphans have a disability. Most of them have mental and physical development disorders – cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism . Unfortunately, Social Protection provides only self-sustaining care. There are no teachers, no education, no development. Children lie in cribs until their death.
We have a rich and unique experience of habilitation and development for these children. They show us they can achieve life skill milestones and breaks the stereotypes. We organize diagnostics, consulting physicians, life skills teachers, speech pathologists and teachers hold special sessions. Because of our Project, more and more children are leaving their cots and become free to play, socialize with other children, walk independently and learn self-help skills.
Care for Poverty International support groups in the orphanages with children with disabilities, 95% of children previously doomed to die in their cribs! Our experience cannot be hidden.
